The National Democratic Committee represses the defender of firearms control and the DNC vice-president David Hogg, the spending plans for millions of administration holders in safe seats that he deems “ineffective”.
Under a proposal unveiled Thursday afternoon, national democratic officials would be required to promise neutrality in all primaries.
During an appeal with members, the president of the National Democratic Committee, Ken Martin, called for the neutrality of DNC officials to codify in the party’s period and statutes.
The news of Martin’s plan was reported for the first time by Notus.
“No DNC officer should never try to influence the result of a primary election, whether in the name of a holder or a challenger,” Martin told journalists on Thursday. “Voters should decide who are our main candidates, not leadership of the DNC.”
The DNC rules and statutes committee should vote on Martin’s proposal next month during a virtual meeting. If the committee approves the proposal, it will move to a full vote of the members of the DNC in August.
In a statement to CNN, Hogg defended its main push, arguing that Democrats cannot be the “strongest opposition party” unless it changes the status quo. The vice-president said that the DNC is trying to modify the rules because it does not break them today.
“The role of the DNC is to define the presidential primary calendar, to set the calendar of the presidential debate, to strengthen our state parties, to play a key role in the construction of our data infrastructure for the party and to be the campaign while waiting for anyone the next Democratic candidate,” said HOGG. “Nothing I do is in contradiction with all of this.”
Later Thursday, he told Kaitlan Collins de CNN that if Martin’s proposal passes, he believes that “they will withdraw me”.
“What is happening here is that they try to modify the rules, which, in fact, will force me to get out of the organization,” said Hogg on “La Source”. He refused to say directly if he would engage in the commitment of neutrality.
Pressure for the new rule occurs a few days after Hogg, who defeated a crowded field to become one of the three presidents of Vice-Plus Large DNC in February, announced his plan to help the primary titular democrats in safe districts through its group leaders that we deserve. The organization plans to spend a total of $ 20 million halfway up next year to support young people who present themselves to their functions.
HOGG stressed that his efforts would not target democrats in competitive districts or would not use any DNC resources, including files or donor lists. He told CNN in an interview last week that he would not approve of the presidential primaries if he was still the DNC leader.
“I do not take it personally,” said Hogg about the criticism of his main challenge. “There is a difference in strategy here, and the way we think things should be done.”
The HOGG initiative is part of a broader effort to put pressure on democratic leadership. About half a dozen democrats are faced with main challenges of younger candidates who say they are not doing enough to block the agenda of President Donald Trump.
But Hogg has shot significant anger from party leaders given his role in the DNC. During a press call Thursday to announce new monthly investments in state parties, the president of the Democratic Party of Martin and Nebraska, Jane Kleeb, president of the association of State Democratic Parties, conferred the proposal for neutrality in the context of a continuous effort to restore confidence in the National Party.
“Let me be clear, it is not a question of protecting the holders or stimulating the challengers,” said Martin. “This is the confidence of voters in the party, and when we maintain a clear policy of neutrality, we rush against the perception or the reality of the bias.”
Martin referred to the turmoil that the party experienced after the 2016 presidential election, when the DNC promulgated several reforms to respond to the complaints of party members who estimated that the DNC has tipped the primary scales to help the former secretary of state Hillary Clinton wins the appointment.
“As I told him, if you want to challenge operators, you are more than free to do so, but quite simply not as a DNC’s officer, because our work is to be neutral referees,” said Martin. “We cannot be both the referee and the player at the same time. We have to make a decision.”
