DNA on face mask leads to arrest of burglary suspect, Chicago police say – NBC Chicago

DNA evidence found on a face mask at the scene of a burglary earlier this year has led investigators to identify a suspect, Chicago police say.

The burglary was reported around 3 p.m. on February 12 in the 5300 block of North Wayne Avenue. A 43-year-old woman told officers she returned home after a vacation and found her basement door was damaged and forcibly opened.

The victim then determined that items from her jewelry box were missing, police said.

Chicago Police said on Saturday that officers were able to arrest the offender after DNA was found on a mask left at the scene.

Additional information, including the name of the suspect, was not immediately available.
