Disneyland cancels Star Wars fireworks debut due to high winds – Orange County Register

Gusts of wind wiped out the opening night of a new Star Wars fireworks show at Disneyland, set to feature a soundtrack by composer John Williams of symphonic scores from the space opera film franchise sweeping over Galaxy’s spiers Edge.

Disneyland was forced to cancel the inaugural “Fire of the Rising Moons” fireworks display due to high winds during the kickoff of the annual Season of the Force event on Friday, April 5.

Winds reached 20 mph during the day in central Orange County on Friday. Steady rain greeted Disneyland guests Friday morning, who rose early to be among the first to experience a new Star Tours destination on the venerable motion simulator Tomorrowland.

The “Fire of the Rising Moons” fireworks display is scheduled to be presented nightly at 9:30 a.m. from Saturday, April 6 to 14 and on select evenings thereafter.

The Season of the Force event runs through June 2 at the Anaheim theme park with the new fireworks show at Galaxy’s Edge, the new Star Tours destination and the return of Hyperspace Mountain to Tomorrowland, new appearances from Star Wars characters as well as specialty food and themed merchandise.

What started as an unofficial annual May 4 celebration of Star Wars has evolved into an eight-week homage to the epic 1970s sci-fi space opera.

Doubling in length from 2023’s month-long festival, the 2024 Season of the Force takes place for a month either side of May 4 – the epic saga’s unofficial holiday.
