Until one of the major players successfully launches the use of a digital currency, we can expect these “projects” to continue indefinitely. China has been a leader in this area and even by forceful means, a digital yuan can hardly be considered a success. So I wouldn’t expect other major central banks to adopt this measure anytime soon. But if and when change happens, it will be rapid across the world.
