The state of the corpse of Diego Maradona suggested that he should have died “in agony”, an expert who participated in the autopsy of the Legend of Tardif Football said Thursday during the trial of seven health professionals accused of homicide during his death.

Judicial doctor Mauricio Casinelli testified that water had accumulated in Maradona’s lungs for “at least 10 days” before his death due to heart failure and cirrhosis of the liver.

Maradona’s heart “weighed almost twice as normal,” said Casinelli, adding that it should have done it “agony” for at least 12 hours before his death.

Maradona died on November 25, 2020 at 60, while he is recovering from cerebral surgery for a blood clot. He had struggled against cocaine and alcohol dependence for decades.

His medical team of seven people is tried for what the prosecutors called the “horror theater” of the last days of his life.

Maradona has proven to be died of heart failure and acute pulmonary edema – a condition where the liquid accumulates in the lungs – two weeks after having passed under the knife.

Casinelli said that the house where Maradona died did not seem “an appropriate place for home hospitalization”.

The defendants of the case are accused of “homicide with a possible intention” – continuing a line of conduct despite the fact that this can lead to the death of their patient.

They risk prison terms between eight and 25 years.

Prosecutors allege that the footballer was abandoned to his fate for an “prolonged and scary period” before his death.

Nearly 120 witnesses should testify in the trial for a long time which should take place until July.
