Djokovic is thinking about retirement
Djokovic, who is 37 years old, admitted that motivation does not come as easily as in the past, recognizing the increase in internal dialogue on the future of his career. However, the winner of the Grand Chelem 24 times said he found a renewal of the optimism of his recent performance in the Miami Open.
“There is no doubt that it has become more difficult than throughout my career. When I play in this way, it obviously gives me more inspiration to continue. It is on the field when you hit the ball well, when you win matches,” he said.
“There are more interior voices bringing doubts, conversations to know if you should continue and for how long. So I am happy that at least in Miami, I found this joy on the field and I felt my level of performance again. Let’s see if I can wear this in the clay season,” he added.
Djokovic after the shock defeat
After his early release of Monte Carlo’s masters, Djokovic expressed his surprise by his own performance, admitting that he did not expect to play as badly.
“I at least expected me to put a decent performance. Not like that, it was horrible. I did not have great expectations. I knew that I will have a difficult opponent, and I knew that I was probably going to play badly. But this bad, I did not expect,” said Djokovic after the match.
“I hoped that it was not going to happen, but it was a fairly high probability that I will play in this way. … A horrible feeling to play this way. Sorry for all the people who have to attend,” he added.
Djokovic will be 38 years old just before the start of the French Open in 2025 in May. He will seek to improve his performance in the tournament.
