Diablo 4’s microtransactions have been a hot-button issue for players since its launch. A more recent addition to the store could be the final straw for some players.

Diablo 4 is in the middle of its third season and in addition the limited-time Lunar Awakening event. Unfortunately for Blizzard, the new event stirred up some old controversy.

Players have been less than impressed by some communication issues from the developer regarding Diablo 4’s Lunar Awakening cosmetics being paid for. The recent drama caused players to take a closer look at the in-game store and they weren’t happy with what they saw.

Reddit user u/Mwatki20 called out a reskin pack for Diablo 4’s travel portals in a post to the game’s community. They initially caused a stir when they were announced, but players are in disbelief at the price to pay.

Although u/Mwatki20 lists the Portal bundle as a $20 microtransaction, many players were quick to point out that it’s worse than that. “It’s not $20, it’s $29.99,” one user clarified. “Just because they give you 1,000 of their magic money doesn’t mean you slipped $30.”

One player went so far as to call the price “insulting,” while another pointed out that you could buy one of the most popular games of all time for the same amount. “You can get Palworld for this price…just saying…”

It’s not just the price that has Diablo 4 players worried. The portal skins themselves are locked to particular classes. Class-specific cosmetics in the game have recently enticed players to participate in the Lunar Awakening event.

“I actually probably would have bought them if they weren’t class-locked so I could switch between them every now and then. But like this? No,” one user wrote. “I agree. I would have totally bought it if they weren’t locked in class,” another replied.

Before this, Portal recolors were limited to Diablo 4 Battle Passes.

Diablo 4’s in-game store was a major concern for players before the game’s release, with fears that it could impact the game’s health.

Blizzard has kept its promise not to implement “pay to win” items, but Diablo 4 fans have still had their share of issues with the content.
