Devin Haney responds to rumours Ryan Garcia broke his jaw with health update and rematch demand

Devin Haney insists he is fit and ready to face Ryan Garcia.

The WBC super lightweight champion was dropped for the first time in his career en route to a majority decision loss to Garcia in New York on Saturday night.

Haney was forced to get up from the ground three times after being knocked down in the seventh, tenth and eleventh rounds of their fight at the Barclays Center.

A viral photo showing Haney nursing a swollen cheekbone gave rise to rumors that he suffered a broken jaw in the first defeat of his 32-fight career.

Even Garcia posted about the theory, he tweeted: “Damn Devin has a broken jaw, allegedly. The name of the game, I guess. What’s next?”

However, the 25-year-old put his concerns about his health to rest by calling for a rematch on X – formerly known as Twitter – hours after coming up short against Garcia.

Haney wrote: “Alhamdulillah Allah is the perfect planner, he makes no mistakes.

“I fought like a true champion. I got up from the canvas and continued to fight. I’m 100% fine and would love to do it again while we both gain weight.

“I didn’t break anything by the way, like I said, I’m fine.

“In the same way you can take it. I will return InshaAllah.”

Despite losing his perfect record, Haney still has his 140-pound belt.

The green and gold bracelet was initially supposed to be up for grabs until Garcia declared himself out of contention for the world title after losing 3.2 pounds of weight on Friday.

Thus, Haney retained his belt even though Garcia was victorious.

Garcia declared “No rematch” right after beating Haney and suggested he would move up to the 147-pound division, dominated by former undisputed champion Terence Crawford.

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is the only other titleholder at welterweight as he holds the IBF title after being promoted to interim champion when Crawford was stripped of the strap.

Only time will tell if he continues his weight move or if Garcia will fight Haney for the eighth time after their famous six-fight streak as amateurs.

Garcia wants to maintain his 4-3 lead for now, but Haney will do everything he can to get an immediate chance at redemption.
