The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team had acquired the Shane Lachance of Edmonton to facilitate an existing trade between the Oilers of Edmonton and the Boston Bruins for Trent Frederic. The announcement was made by President / Managing Director Tom Fitzgerald.
To receive the Lachance, New Jersey exchanges the rights of the attacker for undeveloped choice, and agreed to keep 50% of all future obligations towards the Frederic contract for the 2024-25 season.
Oilers and Bruins have simultaneously announced the greater transaction which includes Hauser’s sending to Edmonton.
Lachance, 21, is in her second season with the University of Boston (Hockey East) at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The 6-foot 5-inch and 220 pound attacker recorded 25 points (10g-15a) in 32 games this season. His goals, assists and points totaled all ranks in the top five for Boston skaters in 2024-25, while his five winning goals ranked second (tied) in the team.
The left-handed shooting totaled 52 career points (23G-29A) in 72 games at the NCAA level and was appointed Captain of the team for the 2024-25 campaign. Last season, Lachance was appointed recruit of East Hockey of the week for the week ending on December 4, 2023. He also won the Hockey East All-Academic Hockey honors in 2023-24.
Born on August 30, 2003 in Andover, Massachusetts, the Oilers selected the Lachance in the sixth round, 186th in total, in the recovery of the NHL 2021. Before her collegial career, Lachance spent two seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with Youngstown from 2021-22 to 2022-23. Youngstown appointed the Lachance Captain team in 2022-23, leading the team to a USHL Clark Cup championship this same season.
Shane’s father Scott played 819 NHL games out of 13 seasons for New York Islanders, Montreal, Vancouver and Columbus. Scott is currently the head of the Devils scouts.
Hauser was a fifth round choice, 141st Overall in the recovery of the NHL 2022.
