developer negotiates creation of region’s first Wegmans food market in Cranberry Springs

Wegmans Food Market, the popular Rochester, NY-based grocery chain that consistently ranks highly in various national surveys, may be about to open its first store in the area from Pittsburgh.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Wegmans is in advanced negotiations to establish a new store in Cranberry Springs, the 100-acre mixed-use masterplan that is home to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex that serves as the Pittsburgh Penguins’ training facility along of Route 228 near Interstate 79.

Marcie Rivera, a Wegmans spokeswoman, declined to comment.
