A displaced woman spoke to CNN about the dire conditions in the Jabalya refugee camp in northern Gaza after the Israeli army heavily bombarded the area and engaged in renewed fighting with Palestinian militants.

“It’s death and horror as you can see. We wake up scared and we go to bed scared,” Ibtisam Abu Abeid told CNN on Friday.

“Our house is gone. Four floors for me and my children – all of them are gone,” she said, referring to her house in the nearby town of Beit Hanoun.

She now lives in a destroyed shelter in the center of Jabalya, after being displaced again from the eastern part of the camp. Abu Abeid says she has no access to toilets or adequate shelter, and water is scarce.

The Israeli army said on Saturday that its troops had killed Palestinian militants during several battles in Jabalya. CNN footage from the area shows large explosions, with sounds of bombing, gunfire and drones everywhere.

Rescuers remove bodies from the rubble: Some 300 homes were completely destroyed in seven days during the Israeli incursion into Jabalya, according to Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for Gaza’s civil defense emergency services.

Bassal’s teams have recovered at least 150 bodies and rescued hundreds of injured people over the past week in the refugee camp, he told CNN on Saturday.

He warned that many bodies remain under the rubble as civil protection teams are either unable to reach them or unable to extract them. Bassal said Israeli fire made his team of first responders afraid to approach certain areas, despite citizens’ calls for help.

CNN’s Sarah El Sirgany contributed reporting to this post.
