The family of a trainee nurse who was found dead after a townhouse explosion left several people injured have broken their silence.

The massive explosion occurred on the second level of the property on Waikanda Crescent in Whalan, in Sydney’s west, around 1pm on Saturday.

Jasmin Mhey, 30, was identified as the missing woman on Sunday evening before search teams found her body on Monday morning.

His family released a statement following the heartbreaking discovery.

“We would like to thank all emergency services personnel for their tireless efforts over the past few days,” it read.

“We would also like to thank the public for their prayers and for respecting our privacy during this tragic time.”

The explosion was heard in the streets and shattered windows of nearby buildings. Five other people were treated on site by emergency services.

Ms Mhey’s distraught mother, who had been closely monitoring the search across the street, told neighbors she had reported the smell of gas in the building and on the street in recent months.

Neighbors described the moment she came home.

“She (the mother) was on all fours and screaming at her daughter,” a neighbor said.

“She didn’t want to leave, she sat here in the rain and cold all night saying she wouldn’t leave until her daughter came out.”
