The Detroit Lions will begin their quest for the franchise’s first Super Bowl Saturday night at 8 p.m. when they host the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs.
The No. 6 seed Commanders advanced to the divisional round by beating No. 3 Tampa Bay, 23-20, on the road Sunday night in the Wild Card round.
Washington finished the regular season 12-5 and second in the NFC East behind Philadelphia. The Lions and Commanders did not play each other in the regular season. The two have faced each other three times in the postseason, with Washington winning all three.
Washington is led by Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite, quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was the second overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. He threw two touchdowns in Sunday’s win over the Buccaneers to become the first rookie quarterback since Russell Wilson in 2012 to win a playoff game on the road.
