While the authorities continue to investigate an accident that killed four teenage girls in Woodacre, the family of a survivor offered the first public story of the parody.
Marley Barclay, 14, of Fairfax was one of the passengers of the vehicle who hit a tree on Friday evening along the San Geronimo Valley road. The driver and five passengers were classmates at Archie Williams high school in San Anselmo.
In a statement published on Monday through a public relations specialist, the girl’s parents said that “wild speculation, rumor and conjecture simply exacerbate what is already an atrocious process for all those involved.”
“What we can share at the moment is that Marley has left our house at 6:50 p.m. to go to downtown Fairfax,” said Jessica Glantz and Ross Barclay’s statement. “There, she met the driver of the vehicle who came out of work around 7:15 p.m., as well as the other four girls, heading for Woodacre shortly after – all wearing safety belts.”
The vehicle hit the tree around 7:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Three girls were declared dead on the accident site; One died in a hospital; And Marley and the driver, injured by criticism, were taken to hospitals outside the county for advanced care.
The deceased girls were Olive Koren, who was in the ninth year, and the 10th year students Sienna Katz, Ada Képley and Josalynn Osborn, according to the Tamalpais Union High School district.
The driver was Elsa Laremont Stranczek, 16, who is in 10th year. She and Marley stayed hospitalized on Monday.
“Our hearts are with the families of the four beautiful young souls lost too early,” said Marley’s parents. “There are no words for the sorrow we share. We mourn next to you and you keep you in our thoughts every moment. ”
California Highway Patrol’s investigation continued on Monday. No details were available on the accident, the speed of the impact or if another vehicle was involved.
The license is an aspect of the investigation. Under state law, a driver under the age of 20 who has been authorized for less than one year can only carry the passengers if they are accompanied by a approved parent or tutor, a 25 -year -old driver or a certified driving instructor.
At Archie Williams high school, students returned to lessons on Monday for the first time since the crash.
“It is a period of immense pain for our school family and district,” said Tara Taupier, the superintendent of the school district, in a press release. “Mourning consultancy and support services are available this week and in the coming weeks for all students and staff in TAM district schools.”
Meanwhile, supporters of the community began collecting funds online to help girls’ families. Alex White, spokesperson for the GoFundme fund collection platform, said the organizers had launched sites in shortl.at/S78KW for the Olive family; shortl.at/wzn8k for Ada; shortl.at/ypoon for Josalinn’s; and shortl.at/8xukh for Marley’s.
