“Destiny 2” significantly changes the most boring part of its Echoes episode

Well, players weren’t thrilled with aspects of Destiny 2’s new Echoes episode, namely its Breach Executable activity, and now Bungie is changing things up in a pretty significant way.

First, they’re changing things so that players can no longer get slammed by airborne Void Hydras with double buff modifiers in a room without cover, since they no longer do Void Threat. But more importantly, they’re making big changes to how you collect samples and how your teammates might trick you. Here’s what they said:

  • We will also improve the search for planetary piston and radiolite samples with several changes:
  • Guardians will always be able to find two pistons each time they run Breach Executable
  • Piston waypoint range is increased for easier visibility
  • The delay before being teleported to join your allies in the next encounter has been increased. This means you can continue to extract samples when your teammates advance.
  • Extracting samples from Radiolite is now instantaneous, allowing you to get back into the action faster.

In other words, it fixes pretty much every aspect of why it was terrible to collect samples in this activity. You couldn’t find the pistons, you didn’t even know if there were two pistons, you were lured by your teammates to other encounters or to the boss room, and it was taking too long to collect the samples. This should mean a lot more loot for all players now participating in this activity, given that it practically doubles it, and also offers a chance to obtain exotic items or materials, if you collect enough of them per game. Excellent.

They also mention that people are missing a sample collection quest from this week, which we had in previous weeks, and that it is currently a weekly challenge that no one can complete. It looks like it will be active on the next reset, which should be the case when this patch goes live.

I haven’t been the biggest fan of this episodic model so far, especially since after three weeks we’ve already reached a three-week story break, which includes timed weapons and a timed battle pass, which we’ve never seen before. But at least I’m glad this activity is less frustrating and much easier to maximize. I appreciate that Bungie takes feedback and implements it in a relatively short period of time, as they are very adaptable when they can.
