desecrated and robbed churches in Seine-Saint-Denis (REPORTAGE) – RT in French

Broken stained glass or desecrated tabernacle, churches have suffered several acts of vandalism in Seine-Saint-Denis. RT France went to meet Father Jocelyn Petitfils, of the Saint-Pierre de Bondy church, and the prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis.

Gérald Darmanin visited two churches in Seine-Saint-Denis on January 13 (Saint-Pierre de Bondy church and Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois church in Romainville), which were the target of acts of vandalism on the night of January 9 to 10. The Minister of the Interior had announced the opening of two investigations on January 12 to find the perpetrators of these acts.

“It is important that we are not left to our own devices in these conditions”, declares Father Jocelyn Petitfils, of the Saint-Pierre church, in Bondy, who calls on public representatives to be alongside the Catholics to defend freedom of worship. “Everything was gutted and forced,” he explains.

Since January 2021, 686 anti-Christian acts have taken place in France. The prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis, Jacques Witkowski, explains that a government mission aims to “found proposals to better take into account the security” of churches.
