Dermatologist, 62, shares 3 things to do now to keep the skin young

The certified dermatologist of the Council, Dr. Doris Day has 242,000 subscribers on Instagram – and many of them are desperate to know how the 62 -year -old man has so few wrinkles and a plump skin.

Day, who is based in New York and a dermatology professor at the Nyu Langone Medical Center, told Business Insider that she could partly thank her genetics and her access to a “variety of advanced treatments” for her young skin. For example, twice a year, she obtains neuromodulation injections (such as Botox) and Sofwave ultrasound treatments to tighten and reduce fine lines, various charges once a year, and has had a superior lifting.

But healthy lifestyle choices and a coherent care routine can also play a big role, she said.

“Everyone can achieve and preserve a good healthy skin throughout their life” with a “mixture of coherent care, good products and treatments and a commitment to general well-being,” she said.

Day has had cosmetic treatments but says that some healthy habits can help anyone who looks young.

The key is to be consistent with healthy habits-although “the skin forgives and recovers well if you are good most of the time,” she said.

Day has shared the habits she thinks that people in their twenties and thirties should start following now to protect their skin as they age.

Use a SPF every day

“Sun protection every day, all year round, is essential,” said Day. “I always say that nothing is more beautiful in the fifties than sun protection in their twenties.”

She recommends that people use sunscreen each morning, with an FPS of at least 30, to protect themselves from UV damage. This should be replicated every two hours in the sun, including your neck, she said.

BI previously reported how to reapply the SPF during makeup.

To protect your skin from UV rays, Day also tries to stay in the shade and wears a hat and clothing in UV -resistant materials.

Indeed, solar screens available in the United States can protect against the most dangerous UVB rays, but are not as effective against UVA rays linked to skin aging, according to the skin cancer Foundation.

Clothes with UV protection can help block UVA and UVB rays, Dr. Heather Kornmehl, certified dermatologist and skin cancer surgery, previously told Bi.

Follow a simple skin care routine

It is a good idea to establish good habits in their twenties and thirties, like make up at the end of the day and follow a simple skin care routine, with hydration and sun protection as fundamental elements, said Day.

It recommended using a moisturizer and sunscreen, and anti-sitting products such as retinol and peptides can be included later.

Day recommends that his patients get into the habit of following a simple skin care routine.

Day has also recommended to visit a dermatologist for a general skin balance and review your skin care routine.

Retinol is widely recognized to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Meanwhile, peptides, considered an alternative to retinol for more sensitive skin, have anti-inflammatory properties, can help the skin maintain presumption and reduce sunscreen, previously reported Bi.

Dr. Abby Waldman, certified dermatologist and assistant dermatology professor at Harvard University, previously shared a simple skin care routine for people in their twenties who integrate these principles.

Do not smoke and do not eat healthy

Eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle can help keep your skin young, said Day.

“Global Wellness” Skin Health Assistance, in addition to specific products and healthcare habits, said Day. She does her best to sleep eight hours a night, make a cardio mixture and force training at least three times a week and minimize the amount of food transformed that she eats.

More specifically, it recommends not smoking and limiting alcohol consumption – which, according to research, contributes to premature facial aging.

Day co-wrote a 2019 study involving more than 3,200 women aged 18 to 75 who had not used retinol cream or had not had anti-aging treatments, such as plastic surgery, botox or chemical peels.

Those who fled or had more than eight alcoholic drinks per week have more notable wrinkles, more puffy diapers and deeper lines around the corners of their mouths than those who do not smoke and drank less.

Day said that drinking enough water, eating a balanced diet and regularly can slow the aging of the skin.
