Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert celebrate Christmas after surgery

Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert had a lot to celebrate this Christmas and they wanted the world to know it.

On Christmas Day, the dancing couple shared a photo of them sharing a kiss on Instagram while sitting in front of their tree and presents. Erbert notably wears a headband, following a series of emergency and reconstructive brain and skull surgeries earlier this month.

โ€œI wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! ๐ŸŽ„” Erbert captioned the duo’s share posted Monday. โ€œCherish the greatest gift of all. The precious gift of life and love that we share. Keep your loved ones close and cherish every moment.

Comments of support and love for the “Dancing With the Stars” couple have been pouring in from their TV co-stars and the greater dance community.

“It’s good to see you! Merry Christmas! ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ sending you so much love. โค๏ธ,” wrote “Dancing With the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba.

The show’s co-host, Alfonso Ribeiro, commented: โ€œI love you guys. Merry Christmas. It looks great.

“You are our Christmas miracle ๐ŸŽ„โค๏ธ,” wrote the show’s other co-host and Hough’s sister, Julianne Hough.

Dancing legend and former American Idol judge Paula Abdul commented: “Merry Christmas and may our blessed prayers continue ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’• Sending you so much love!”

After a Dec. 5 performance near Washington, D.C., Erbert was rushed to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma due to a burst blood vessel, Hough said. She underwent emergency surgery to stop the bleeding.

Hough said follow-up surgery was needed to install a cranial implant to “restore the skull to its natural shape and protect the brain from injury.” Since the first operation, Erbert was missing a piece of her skull and she was wearing a helmet.

Erbert had been on the road with Hough since October for his Symphony of Dance tour. She played a major role in the show, dancing with her husband throughout their performance in Oxon Hill, Maryland. However, Erbert was noticeably absent during this show’s final bow when Hough recognized each of the key performers. A few days later, Hough announced his diagnosis and emergency surgery.

Erbert and Hough got married last August after eight years of dating. They first met on the ABC dance competition series when Hough was a competing celebrity dancer and Erbert was a troupe member. Hough is a record six-time winner of โ€œDWTS.โ€ In 2020, he joined the season 29 judging panel, replacing longtime judge Len Goodman, who died earlier this year.
