Deontay Wilder says Oleksandr Usyk fight would be an ‘easy night’ compared to facing Tyson Fury again

Deontay Wilder is convinced he could beat Oleksandr Usyk if they met in the boxing ring.

The “Bronze Bomber” will return to the ring for redemption when he faces Zhilei Zhang on June 1, looking to respond to a points loss to Joseph Parker in December.

It’s seen as the last chance sedan for the American, who could put his name back in the mix for the world title with a resounding victory.

A shot at the winner of Tyson Fury’s clash with Oleksandr Usyk would probably be ideal for Wilder, but the American believes he would have a much easier night against the Ukrainian.

“I think the easier night of the two would be Oleksandr Usyk’s,” he told Sky Sports.

“To see his style or whatever, styles make fights and I think it would be easier with him because I’ve never fought him and we don’t know each other.

“Me and Fury have fought a few times so we know each other, it would be different.

“Fighting someone you’ve never fought before, you don’t know what surprises can happen and I’m going with that.”

A fight between Wilder and Usyk is highly unlikely, with a host of other contenders, including Anthony Joshua, expected to be in line for a shot first.

The two appeared set to meet in 2023, but Wilder claimed the unified champion turned down a lucrative offer to fight.

Wilder would be confident in a clash with Usyk given the notable size difference, but the Ukrainian would provide a very different test for Fury.

The former WBC world champion first drew against Fury in December 2018, before losing his rematch in brutal fashion in February 2020.

He was also beaten a second time by Fury during their trilogy in October 2021, and struggled throughout their feud with the powerhouse Brit.

The 38-year-old has again confirmed that he would love to host a fourth event with Fury, but that seems unlikely in the near future.

Fury has included another meeting with Wilder in his ten-fight shortlist before his career ends. and had previously indicated that he would explore it depending on his situation at the time.
