Members of the animal health and care team discovered that Willow was ‘experiencing a medical emergency’ as she suffered a miscarriage and later died despite hours-long efforts to save her, a said the zoo on Twitter.
Willow and two other mountain goats among the zoo’s group were born in 2019 in Tacoma, Washington, according to the zoo. The Washington trio were “rescued after being declared ‘nuisance’ wildlife following a human-wildlife conflict in the area”.
The goats were transferred to the Denver Zoo in 2020 and “have quickly become beloved members of our animal family.”
Willow Zoo’s care team described her as feisty, curious and beautiful.
“There will be one less pair of eyes curiously surveying the zoo from the top of Goat Mountain and Willow will be greatly missed by guests, staff and volunteers.”
