Democratic leaders pledge to save Johnson as intrigue grows at Capitol
House Democratic leaders officially declared Tuesday that they will vote to keep order in the House by protecting Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from any far-right Republicans seeking to oust him.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is leading the effort to remove Johnson from the presidency because he has relied on Democratic support to pass major bills, particularly the $60 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine, which was opposed by the majority of House Republicans. Johnson has had to rely on the minority party because hardliners in his conference refuse to compromise, leading to divisions within the party over policy and the legislative process.
