Democratic consulting firm drops Senator Sinema as client after party switch

Authentic, a Democratic digital consulting firm, dropped Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) as a client after changing her party affiliation to Independent on Friday, according to a person familiar with the company, who said Policy.

The firm has represented Sinema for years, and dropping her as a client ultimately puts her at a disadvantage for 2024, when she will be re-elected.

On Friday, Sinema announced she would be leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent in an interview published Friday morning with CNN’s Jake Tapper, saying she ultimately thought it made “a lot of sense” because a “growing number of Arizonans and people like me don’t feel like we fit perfectly into the box of one party or the other.

This all comes after the digital company saw a revolt from its employees earlier this year after voting against legislation the Biden administration has pushed, such as ending the filibuster, which most wanted, and his infamous vote against raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

According to the report earlier this year, staff members expressed “shock and trepidation” over why their company which “professes loyalty to a set of progressive values” worked with Sinema. In internal union messages reviewed by the publication, one of the company’s staff said: ‘I’m doing the devil’s job’, while another staff member said: ‘I feel sick on this subject.”

The digital firm declined to comment on the report to Politics, and Sinema’s office also did not respond to a request from the publication.

Policy noted that Sinema’s campaign had given the company more than $700,000 in business since 2020, and Federal Election Commission records showed the expenses included digital consulting and slate acquisition.

Notably, after Sinema’s party switch, the Democrats will still have control of the Senate with 51 seats, as she caucus with the Democrats.
