Delta’s New JFK Luxury Lounge Offers Fine Dining and Massages
Affluent travelers flying Delta Air Lines from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport can now enjoy a massive new luxury lounge that’s part of the airline’s $1.5 billion investment airline to expand its presence at JFK.
The Atlanta-based airline is set to open its exclusive 39,000-square-foot Delta One lounge — the largest of its “Sky Club” offerings — on Wednesday.
Facilities will include full-body massage chairs, fine dining, toilet cubicles and shower rooms equipped with bathrobes and slippers as well as soundproof cubicles for working.
Passengers who have just completed a long-haul flight can check in in the lounge and drop off their clothes and shoes with a valet who will spray or polish them while they shower.
The new facility, which can accommodate a maximum of 515 people, includes complimentary spa treatments for eyes, hands and arms.
Travelers can relax with a meal or a drink while admiring the panoramic terrace overlooking the airfield. They can also indulge in what is billed as a “recovery remedy”: a 10-minute massage that covers the shoulders, scalp and temples.
The Delta One lounge is a major step up from the airline’s Sky Club lounges, which offer free Wi-Fi, refreshments including food and drinks, work space and access to power outlets.
Sandwiched between Concourses A and B of JFK Terminal 4, the venue also includes an upscale brasserie-restaurant, a bakery, a walk-up food counter and a fully equipped bar.
Access, however, is exclusive to say the least: travelers can only enter if they are members of the invitation-only “360” club, or if they purchase tickets for the airline’s Delta One service – the premium cabin service that offers airline connections. flat seats and priority check-in for round-trip fares up to $10,000.
Last year, Delta infuriated its customers by announcing it was cracking down on access to its Sky Club, which had been plagued by overcrowding in the years since travel demand surged following the lifting of COVID-era lockdown measures.
Initially, the company said American Express credit card holders would no longer have unlimited access to lounges before departure.
The airline also imposed a 10-visit limit on Delta Reserve and Delta Business Reserve cardholders, who pay a $550 annual fee — although infinite access can be unlocked by spending $75,000 in a year.
But the airline mitigated the changes by increasing visitation caps in response to the refusal.
Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card and Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express Cardmembers were allowed 15 lounge visits instead of 10.
Customers using the American Express Platinum Card and Business Platinum were allowed 10 salon visits per year, up from six.
The new Delta One restaurant, a collaboration between Restaurant Associates and Union Square Events, offers dishes including Hamachi crudo, steak tartare and lasagna Bolognese.
There is also a specially designated ‘rejuvenation bar’ which offers ‘refreshing non-alcoholic drinks’ as well as ‘fruit and herb-infused waters and juices’.
The airline plans to open similar high-end lounges in Los Angeles and Boston, scheduled to open later this year.
Delta is also considering building luxury lounges at its main hub in Atlanta as well as in Seattle.
