A Delhi court on Thursday directed the Delhi Police to immediately return the security cover provided to a woman wrestler who has accused former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment. Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik had alleged on Thursday that the security cover of women wrestlers who were scheduled to testify in the sexual harassment case was being withdrawn by the Delhi Police.

Additional Chief Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot on Thursday issued an interim order seeking restoration of security, noting that the wrestler must appear before the court on Friday for her statement to be recorded in the case.

The court heard applications filed by lead counsel Rebecca John for three wrestlers, claiming their security was withdrawn on Wednesday night.

The court directed the police to file a detailed report by Friday regarding the reasons for withdrawal of the petitioners’ security.

“In the meantime, as an interim measure to ensure the safety of complainant/victim no.4 (as per the witness list), the concerned DCP is directed to make immediate and appropriate arrangements for her safety till the completion of her deposition and till further orders of this court. Accordingly, let notice be issued to the concerned DCP with a direction to file a compliance report on the next date,” the magistrate said and posted the matter for Friday.

Vinesh and Sakshi had earlier written in their social media posts, “Delhi Police has withdrawn security from women wrestlers who are going to testify against Brij Bhushan in court.”
