DeKalb County Soccer Club offers unique promotion to Lionel Messi – NBC Chicago

Inter Miami CF superstar Lionel Messi has been tearing up Major League Soccer this season, with 10 goals already to his name, but with sky-high prices to see the legendary talent, one local soccer club is going in the opposite direction .

DeKalb County United, which will host its first home game of the Midwest Premier League season on June 8 against Chicago House, has offered a special ticket deal to its fans if Messi ends up visiting Northern Illinois University this summer.

The team announced that if Messi attends a match, anyone who purchased a ticket will have their purchase price refunded and will be able to enjoy the match for free.

“Other clubs can exploit Messmania to increase prices, but not us,” the team said. “We promise: If Lionel Messi comes to a DKCU game, anyone who purchased a ticket in advance will get in for FREE!”

The team was quick to point out that Messi is currently not expected to attend any games this season, but one should never rule out a quick trip down Interstate 88 for a game at NIU.

DeKalb County United is a member of the Midwest Premier League, a collection of amateur and semi-professional soccer teams in the Midwest. The club fields men’s and women’s teams and plays its home games on the NIU campus.

General admission tickets start at $5 and can be purchased on the team’s website.
