Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will travel to Nigeria to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is set to begin his three-day visit to Nigeria where he will also attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Singh will attend the event on May 29. During his visit, Singh will also meet incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari at a reception hosted by him on May 28, according to an official statement from the ministry.

With this, Singh will mark his first visit as Defense Minister to the West African nation.

The Defense Minister’s visit to the West African country will be an important step in building strong ties of friendship between the two countries.

In view of the growing defense cooperation between India and Nigeria, senior officers from the Ministry of Defense and senior leaders from major defense UAPs will accompany Rajnath Singh.

They will hold meetings with representatives of Nigerian industry and the armed forces to identify equipment and platforms through which the Indian defense industry can meet the country’s needs, the official press release said.

Nigeria is home to approximately 50,000 members of the Indian community. The Minister of Defense will also address the Indian Diaspora in Abuja during his visit.
