“Deadpool & Wolverine” on presale for $8 million, ideal for an R-rated film: Box Office

The first R-rated release from Disney Marvel Studios, Deadpool and Wolverine, is already buzzing eight weeks before its debut, having already collected some $8 million in ticket sales on its first day. $8 million is pretty remarkable for a film rated R two months before its release. The Batman ($6.5 million), Disney Marvel Studio Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($6 million) and Lionsgate’s R rating John Wick: Chapter 4 ($1.4 million). The Batman And GOTG3 opened to the respective 3-day weekends of $134M and $118.4M.

Deadpool and Wolverine was planned as one of the few mainstays that will really work this summer and bring mass audiences back to theaters. Other titles include Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4 And Tornadoes.

AMC boss Adam Aron was over the moon on Twitter about the news Deadpool and Wolverine, writing: “Some 200,000 moviegoers have already purchased their AMC tickets. That’s more first-day ticket sales at AMC than for any other R-rated film.”
