Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld hints at issues with Disney ahead of DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE release

Many comic book writers and artists have clashed with Disney and Marvel Studios in recent years, particularly over how much they are paid for their creations appearing in films and television shows.

For example, it was in 2017 that we learned that the legendary Jim Starlin made more money thanks to the appearance of Anatoli Knyyazev (KGBeast on the page) in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as the main roles of Thanos, Drax and Gamora in the MCU.

Now it appears that writer and artist Rob Liefeld is having similar problems with the House of Mouse.

“My reps were yelled at today, ‘We are NOT Fox!’ Tell me about that. I also hung up. More soon. he teased on X last night. Liefeld later added: “The big bodies seek to intimidate in all kinds of ways, the little guys always have the task of continuing to move forward despite the shouting.”

Although Liefeld remains frustratingly vague, our biggest allusion might be Deadpool and Wolverine related (beyond his mention of Fox) came when he added, “I didn’t have Warner Bros. treating me better than Disney on my bingo card. But there you go.”

This is likely a reference to his recent deal with Warner Bros. to adapt its Avengelyne comic series.

We are surprised that this kind of thing is being negotiated so close to the Deadpool and Wolverinebut this Disney rep probably became furious with Liefeld’s team for wanting him to receive the same level of compensation he got for dead Pool And Deadpool 2. Assuming it concerns this franchise, of course.

Captain America writer Ed Brubaker shared his own issues with the studio in 2021. “It’s ridiculous that, like if I was co-creator of the Winter Soldier…I shouldn’t have to worry about providing for my wife if I die.”

“As the years went by, I started to think, ‘Well, why don’t I really get anything for this?’ Like, how can we actually get a ‘Thank you’ or a credit, but these movies are making billions and billions of dollars, and it feels like we just got a bad deal.”

Shortly after his comments went viral, Marvel Studios reportedly did something to rectify the situation. Maybe Liefeld is hoping for the same thing?
