Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy may finally be preparing to travel to a galaxy far, far away and he’s taking Ryan Gosling with him.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Levy’s Star Wars film has entered into negotiations with Ryan Gosling to star in the upcoming film. Levy has been developing this Star Wars film since 2022, with a script in the works since last year. Levy collaborated again with Jonathan Tropper who wrote the films This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, both directed by Levy.
Details of the Levy Star Wars film are, of course, under wraps and it’s not yet known who Gosling might play or even what era in Star Wars history it’s set in. The only details known about the story are that it is unrelated. to the Skywalker saga.
The Hollywood Reporter also states that this is a standalone film, so it likely won’t be a trilogy of films.
Ryan Gosling’s involvement also moved the film forward. Levy was originally slated to direct a boy band movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but THR says that if Gosling officially joins the film, then production on that Star Wars movie will move forward and become Levy’s next film, with production that should start in the fall.
Star Wars is currently in a period of transition. After the cancellation of The Acolyte, Disney Plus introduced its new Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew, which just aired its final episode. On the movie side, Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian and Grogu finished production in December and is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026. And there’s a new trilogy of films focusing on Daisy Ridley’s Rey from the sequel trilogy.
It’s not yet clear what release date Levy’s Star Wars film will be if it does indeed move forward this year. For everything coming in the Star Wars universe, check out our Star Wars ini 2025 preview.
