Deadly shooting in Soho: New York police search for suspects after attack on man killed in New York

SOHO, Manhattan (WABC) — Police are searching for several suspects after a man was shot and killed in SoHo outside high-end stores.

It happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. near Greene and Grand streets, directly across from Stone Island, a luxury clothing store.

A group of men attacked the 31-year-old victim on the sidewalk before one of them shot him in the right thigh.

The victim, identified as Bayonne resident Javier Osorio-Mejia, was transported to Bellevue Hospital where he later died.

The suspects fled in a black SUV.

The victim may have been in Queens Monday evening and was walking through SoHo on his way home to Bayonne and he interacted in some way with the suspects.

Detectives believe he was killed during a robbery gone wrong. Bloodstained clothing and a pair of green trainers were left on the ground next to a Range Rover.

People who showed up for work later that morning were shocked.

“I’m pretty shocked that this is happening, I’ve never experienced this before,” Hannah Crary said. “North of Canal, rents tend to be pretty high, so it’s a little shocking.”

Police are scouring businesses and buildings in the area for surveillance video of the suspects.

There has only been one other shooting in SoHo this year. It happened on May 5 when 16-year-old Makhi Brown was shot and killed while allegedly breaking up an argument.

The NYPD says there have been 12 robberies so far this year in SoHo.
