Developed by Capcom Japan and produced by Keiji Inafune, the original Dead Rising game was released in 2006. It received an HD remaster for modern platforms in 2016.

The game features protagonist Frank West, a photojournalist who finds himself trapped in a zombie-infested mall in the fictional town of Willamette, Colorado.

Dead Rising received several sequels, the first of which was developed by Blue Castle Games. The studio was acquired and renamed Capcom Vancouver in 2010 following the completion of Dead Rising 2.

Capcom Vancouver also developed Dead Rising 2: Off the Record in 2011, Dead Rising 3 in 2013, released by Microsoft as a launch title for Xbox One, and Dead Rising 4 in 2016.

Capcom announced plans to close the studio and cancel its projects in development in September 2018.

The Dead Rising franchise has sold 16 million units as of March 2024.

“This zombie action series challenges players to fend off hordes of zombies by any means necessary and uncover the truth behind the horrific incident that started the zombie outbreak,” according to Capcom.

“Since its first release in August 2006, the series has enjoyed great success thanks to its exceptional action and its humorous universe.”
