The 78th Cannes Festival started on Tuesday in the French Riviera, where guests were invited to dress more modestly.
“For reasons of decency, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other field of the festival”, according to the 2025 Festival website. “Volumenous outfits, in particular those with a large train, which hinder the appropriate flow of customers and complicated seats in the theater are not allowed.”
The dress code apparently surprised Halle Berry, member of the Cannes jury. During a press conference of the festival, the actress told journalists that she had to make a last minute change to the outfit she planned to wear during the opening evening: “I had an incredible dress from (Gaurav) Gupta that I cannot wear this evening because it is too big train,” she said. “I’m not going to break the rules … The part of nudity is also likely a good rule.”
The festival also started a week after President Trump announced that he wanted Impose a 100% price On the films made outside of American studios, banners, filmmakers and other players in the world of entertainment are concerned about what changes would mean for the world cinema and television industry.
“At this point, it is still too early to assess the potential impact of these announcements,” said Cannes Iris KnoBloch president Variety. “However, I sincerely hope that the world cinema industry will not be paralyzed by prudence or uncertainty. The sector is always recovering from the depths caused by the pandemic, work strikes and, more recently, forest fires in Los Angeles … Any system, in my opinion, should encourage cooperation – and not competition at the end of others.”
Robert de Niro accepts Palme d’Or
During the opening ceremony, actor Leonardo DiCaprio presented Robert de Niro With the prestigious Palme d’Or Award. For the second consecutive year, a small group of self -employed workers from the festival briefly protested outside the opening ceremony. The action was organized by the French Labor Collective Under the screens the Dèche (Blurred behind the screens), which aims to improve working conditions and regain the “intermittent employee” status for thousands of French television and cinema workers in Cannes, according to the group’s website.
