DC Area Forecast: Hot, Humid Weekend, with Potential for Occasional Storms

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

6/10: It feels like it’s the end of June. Not great, unless you’re in an air-conditioned place or by the water.

  • Today: Partly sunny, humid. Risk of storm. Highs: 89 to 93.
  • This evening: Possible thunderstorm in the evening. Humid. Lows: mid 70s to near 80.
  • Tomorrow: Hot, humid and risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Maximums: 92-97.

Our one-day break from the heat was very welcome on Friday. We are heading back this weekend, but with the certainty of more cool days in the near future. On the way there, it will be very humid and we could see record highs tonight and the occasional storm that will try to temper the parched landscape. Monday is bliss.

Today (Saturday): A warm front is moving northward across the region this morning. While we have wondered about the threat of a severe storm, the chances of anything developing as it passes through despite the environmental potential remain low. Much of the day is partly sunny and increasingly uncomfortable, with high humidity and temperatures rising into the 90s and low 90s — sometimes feeling as hot as 100. Some storms could push into the region late from the northwest. Confidence: Medium-high

This evening: Showers and thunderstorms could persist into the evening. Thunderstorm risks are likely to be mostly moderate, but the risk of stronger thunderstorms increases in northern Maryland and to the north. The weather will be tropical and humid, so temperatures will hold. Lows will be mostly in the mid-70s to near 80s. Perhaps some patchy fog before dawn. Confidence: medium-high

Tomorrow Sunday) : The weather is humid and partly sunny in the morning and until midday. A cold front may arrive early and thunderstorms may form in the area as it passes. As they will be formative, the details are trickier, but they likely occur shortly after the heat peak, so they are worth keeping an eye on. Before any storm, high temperatures reach the mid-90s in most places, feeling closer to 100 to 105 degrees. Trust: medium-high

Tomorrow evening: A shower or thunderstorm could persist into the evening, particularly over southern Maryland. Otherwise, clearing will occur as humidity drops after storms. Near 60 to mid 60s for lows with cooler breezes behind the cold front. Trust: medium-high

Seems like a good day to get sick from the nice weather happening on a MondayMaximum temperatures are between 21 and 27°C, while the sun shines almost everywhere thanks to the Canadian high pressure moving overhead. Confidence: Average

Home between 50 and 60 years old TuesdayIt will be a bit warmer than Monday, but temperatures will still be pleasant with highs reaching the mid-80s. The sun continues to shine abundantly across the region as it prepares to get warmer as the holidays approach. Confidence: Medium
