Today’s figure of the day

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

6/10: The heat wave is finally over. Cheers to all!

Express forecast

  • Today: Partly cloudy and less humid. Isolated showers? Highs: 85 to 91.
  • This evening: Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the south. Lows: 61 to 69.
  • Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, light winds, moderate humidity. Highs: 84 to 90.

Detailed forecasts

You’d be forgiven if today feels like a fresh start to life. The return to seasonal temperatures is expected to continue through the weekend. The shower forecast is a bit more unclear as the front that pushed the storms last night doesn’t extend very far south. This could allow storms and higher humidity to return to our region over the weekend.

Today (Thursday): The bulk of the showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur well south of the district by dawn. However, there is just enough instability to maintain a slight risk of isolated showers at any time of day. Most of us are staying dry and enjoying the cooler, more humid air with light northerly breezes. Highs range from the mid-80s to near 90s. Confidence: medium-high

This evening: A few isolated showers may persist into the evening but should clear quickly after sunset. Light northerly winds continue under partly cloudy skies. Lows will be as low as 60 degrees. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): It’s a great day to get out and about, with maximum temperatures mainly between 27 and 30°C and manageable humidity levels (dew points around 15°C). The sun dominates with only a few scattered clouds in the afternoon. North-easterly breezes remain light. Confidence: high

Tomorrow evening: Drier air and calm winds make for a pleasant evening as temperatures slowly drop towards 21°C. Nighttime minimum temperatures are mainly between 15°C and 18°C. Confidence: High

A look into the future

We start our weekend SATURDAY with a watchful eye to the south. Moisture looks set to return to the region as a weak disturbance moves northeast along the front. This brings a chance of showers and perhaps a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Fortunately, the heat is still contained by a good amount of clouds with highs mainly in the 80s to 85s. Shower chances persist through late tonight. Lows dip into the 60s to 70s. Confidence: Medium

For now, it looks like the front might sag a bit to the south. Sunday. But humidity is rising with dew points rising to around 70°C. A few showers and thunderstorms are possible in the late afternoon and evening. Maximum temperatures are expected to climb to the high 80s and low 90s, with overnight lows in the low 60s and low 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium

A new wave of showers and thunderstorms is possible Monday as another disturbance is likely to migrate into the area along the front, probably just to the south. The greatest probability of significant thunderstorms is south of the city. Maximum temperatures range from the mid-80s to the low 90s. Confidence: Low-Medium
