DC area forecast: Avoid showers and storms through tomorrow, drier Friday and Saturday

* Flood Monitoring for the DC and Baltimore metro areas today from noon to evening*

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

4/10: Showers and thunderstorms at times during the afternoon into evening. At least it seems like we’re shifting the timing of the rains more to midweek than the weekend.

  • Today: Humid with afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Highs: around 80 to 85.
  • This evening: Humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows: Upper 60s to 70s.
  • Tomorrow: Very warm scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs: Mid 80s to near 90s.

Hot and humid weather is the rule today and tomorrow, with occasional showers and thunderstorms. These storms could sometimes dump heavy rain, possibly causing flooding in isolated areas. Much drier air arrives Friday and Saturday, significantly reducing rain chances, which could start to increase again on Sunday.

Today (Wednesday): A few light showers are possible in the morning through early afternoon, then scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely mid to late afternoon, with a few heavy showers in places. Afternoon highs are expected to reach around 80 to 85 under partly to partly cloudy skies, and the weather is quite humid with dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: average

This evening: Occasional showers and thunderstorms remain likely in the evening and possibly overnight. The air has a muggy feel similar to midsummer, with lows only dipping into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Confidence: average

Friday and Saturday are partly to mostly sunny and pleasantly less humid with highs near 80. With the drier air, the chances of showers should be slim to none. Lows Friday and Saturday night fall back into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Trust: medium-high

The risk of a few isolated showers and thunderstorms could return. Sunday as another cold front approaches with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s. Trust: Low-Medium
