Sunil Kumar Jakhar joins the BJP

Sunil Jakhar joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, days after his unceremonious exit from Congress.

sources close to News18 said Jakhar had been in Delhi for a few days and was in deliberation with senior BJP brass.

A three-time MP and former MP, Jakhar, recently received a show cause notice from the Congress leadership for his criticism of former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Announcing his exit from Congress last week, he said: “This is my parting gift to the party. Good luck and goodbye Congress.”

Jakhar, who also served as the head of Congress of Punjab Pradesh, was upset with the way he was treated by the Congress high command and was also unhappy to have received a show cause notice regarding alleged anti-party activities .

A report of Hindustan time mentioned his sources saying that Jakhar is likely to be inducted into the BJP headquarters in Delhi by the party’s national chairman, JP Nadda.

It is also possible that Jakhar will be appointed to the Rajya Sabha by another state and given some responsibilities in Punjab, sources say. excl. tax mentioned.

Jakhar had earlier accused the Congress high command of listening to a “certain Punjabi leader” over the appointment of the CM after the departure of Captain Amarinder Singh. He said that even after three generations of his family had served Congress for 50 years, he was “stripped of all party office” for “not toeing the party line”.

Notably, Jakhar was among the favorites for the post of Chief Minister after Amarinder Singh resigned in 2021. The chances of him becoming the CM had turned bleak after party leader Ambika Soni’s statement that the Congress should opt for a Sikh face for Punjab.

Jakhar is the son of veteran Congress leader and former Lok Sabha president, the late Balram Jakhar.
