The Chicago Bears have hired Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their new head coach, ushering in an exciting new era for the NFL charter franchise.
There has been a lot of reaction to Johnson’s hiring, including a lot of enthusiasm from safeties Jaquan Brisker and Jonathan Owens, as well as fans and analysts. But there’s someone who doesn’t seem happy with the news – and it’s someone close to Johnson.
Former Bears and current Lions running back David Montgomery took to Instagram to share his reaction to his offensive coordinator leaving for Chicago, and it was pretty hilarious.
Montgomery signed with the Lions in 2023, where he played a key role in Detroit’s offensive success under Johnson. Montgomery rushed for over 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023, and he was on track to repeat his success in 2024 before suffering what he feared would be a season-ending knee injury during the week 15. He returned for the Lions’ only playoff games. and he finished the season with 775 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, along with 341 receiving yards.
Although Montgomery likely won’t be happy with his offensive coordinator’s departure — all while going to rival Detroit — he’ll have two opportunities for revenge each season for the foreseeable future. And Johnson will be looking to make a statement against his former team.
