David Fincher to direct “Once upon a time in Hollywood” following Netflix

Billboard Women in Music 2025

David Fincher directs a suite of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, with Quentin Tarantino writing the follow -up of his Oscar -winning epic. Variety Confirms that the project, which has no official title, is set up at Netflix, where Fincher has a first agreement. Brad Pitt will resume his role of stuntman and potential wife Cliff Booth.

It is a particularly unique production – not only because a high -level director directs a series of another high -level director film, but also due to the transition from the property of a theatrical studio to a streamer. (The change is particularly relevant because the news of the project emerged during the annual gathering of a week of the cinema industry in Cinemacon in Las Vegas.) “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” was published by Sony Pictures in 2019, but Tarantino negotiated an agreement which would make him the property of the copyright under-shaped from the film after several years. Given that this follow -up is put in place under the Fincher Agreement in Netflix, this probably indicates that the fees of the after -effect can already be kept in private by Tarantino.

The project met after Tarantino canceled plans for what would have been his 10th feature film (and allegedly final), “The Movie Critic”. A script had been written and Brad Pitt had been thrown into the main role. The story would take place in the 1970s and followed a film critic that wrote for a porn magazine. The rumor says that Pitt would play a version of his character from “Once Upon A

Now Pitt will officially take up the role, which has earned him an Oscar for the support actor. The project brings together Pitt with Fincher, which has each made some of their most acclaimed films together: the seminal thriller “SE7En”, the cult satire “Fight Club” and the Oscar Darling “The curious case of Benjamin Button”. It seems less likely that Leonardo DiCaprio or Margot Robbie will resume their roles for the future.

Although Tarantino’s reputation is as a screenwriter-director, the filmmaker wrote scripts he did not end up displaying, including “True Romance” by Tony Scott and “From Dusk Till by Robert Rodriguez”. Meanwhile, Fincher has carried out two features at Netflix, which both share themes with this new one: the play from the Hollywood period “Mank” and the thriller of violent worker “The Killer”.

The playlist was the first to report on the suite “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. Netflix did not respond to comment.
