David Beckham is keen to sign Raphael Varane to Inter Miami this summer following the defender’s departure from Manchester United, according to reports.

Varane, 31, left Old Trafford after his contract expired at the end of the season and remains a free agent as several clubs consider a move for him.

According to The Mirror, the central defender was asked about the idea of joining Inter Miami, where he would join Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Barcelona greats Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are also in attendance at Chase Stadium, having been lured to the United States to join Beckham’s star-studded franchise.

Varane left Real Madrid for United in July 2021 for an initial fee of £34 million and made 93 appearances, but left amicably after a series of injuries.

He reportedly cost the Red Devils £85million in transfer fees and wages over his three campaigns, during which he made just 68 Premier League appearances.

But despite this, Beckham is reportedly willing to offer the former France international another big payday in his bid to boost the profile of his Florida-based club.

Inter Miami are top of the MLS standings after 20 games and could sign Varane outside the transfer window – open from July 18 to August 14.

Varane proved a popular figure during his time at United and won the Carabao Cup in 2023 before winning the FA Cup in his final appearance for the club last season.

Before the 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Wembley, he confirmed his departure in an emotional video message recorded for supporters.

“It’s been an incredible few years playing for this special club and wearing this jersey,” Varane said. “The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Manchester United player it was crazy, the atmosphere was incredible.

“When fans go to Wembley, it’s something they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. To share that moment with them (winning the Carabao Cup) was absolutely incredible.

“Despite the fact that we had a difficult season, I am very positive about the future.

“The new owners are coming in with a clear plan and an excellent strategy. I will see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last home game this season (against Newcastle) and it will certainly be a very emotional day for me.

Varane spent 10 years at Real Madrid, where he won three La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, three Spanish Super Cups and the Copa del Rey.
