Dave Chappelle berated a fan before walking away in the middle of his set after catching the guest using his phone during his show in Florida.
Comedian Dave Chappelle stormed off stage during his concert at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, when he caught a fan in the crowd using his cell phone.
Chappelle, 50, was playing the second night of a five-night stand at a 7,000-seat venue when the incident happened Wednesday night, according to the Miami Herald.
The “Half Baked” actor alerted the security man before scolding the audience and walking off stage, shaking his head in disappointment, the outlet added.
The venue’s policy is “no devices or electronics, at the request of the artist,” meaning anything that could be used to record Chappelle’s set would have had to be out of sight for the duration of the show, according to the Hard Rock Live website.
Fans are required to leave their electronic devices, such as cell phones, smart watches and cameras, secured in Yondr neoprene pouches to prevent noisy guests from recording the performance.
Chappelle has not addressed the incident, but fans have expressed frustration with the fan’s rude behavior.
“Few things make you more misanthropic than going to the theater.” I saw Dave Chappelle at Hard Rock tonight and he (rightly) dropped the mic and stormed off the stage. My favorite comedian of all time, first time seeing him I was so excited and some ps had to self-insert,” a fan said the.
“Some fucking asshole took out his phone at the #DaveChappelle show at Hollywood Hard Rock,” another fan posted.
If the locked bag wasn’t enough to dissuade fans from using their devices, DJ Trauma, who provided Chappelle’s onstage introductions, warned the audience before the show that phones were not allowed and that they would be expelled if caught. using them, according to Fox 29.
Hard Rock Live is located nearly 20 miles north of Miami Beach.
This isn’t “The Chappelle Show” actor’s first encounter with an unruly fan at one of his shows.
A disturbed fan attacked Chappelle while he was performing on stage in Los Angeles in May 2022.
The footage captured Isaiah Lee, 23, storming the stage during the comedian’s set at the Hollywood Bowl and knocking the unsuspecting comic to the ground while he was in the middle of a joke.
Lee told the Post he was “triggered” by the comedian’s jokes about the LGBTQ community and homelessness – insisting he never meant to harm the comedian.
He admitted he was carrying a replica handgun with a retractable knife inside the night of the alleged attack, but claimed he did not have the weapon drawn when he charged at scene.
Lee was initially arrested for felonious assault with a deadly weapon. He later had his charges downgraded to misdemeanor battery.
In October, fans reportedly left the comedian’s show at TD Garden in Boston after he criticized the United States for supporting Israeli “war crimes” against Palestinians during his performance.
Chappelle condemned Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, which left some 1,400 Israelis dead – but slammed what he claims are Israel’s war crimes in Gaza, sparking some reluctance from the crowd.
An audience member reportedly told Chappelle to “shut up” after he said he didn’t think people should lose their jobs for supporting the Palestinians during his set.
