The daughter of the actors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard were one of the people arrested during the last demonstrations of the University of Columbia, marking the last development of the anti-war demonstrations which also led to the temporary suspension of student journalists.
Friday, the New York Post reported that Ramona Sarsgaard, 18, a first -year student from Columbia, was arrested during the demonstrations of the Campus on Wednesday where the students demonstrated against the mortal war of Israel in Gaza.
Sarsgaard received an office appearance ticket for criminal intrusion, the point of sale reported, citing people familiar with the issue. The university did not immediately respond to a request for comments on the post report.
The arrest of Sarsgaard, as well as dozens of others, intervened after anti-war militant students occupied part of the main building of the Butler library at Columbia University for several hours in a demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinian Liberation.
Singling the space of the Popular University of Basel Al-Araj, the students hung a sign that said “Strike for Gaza” while others distributed brochures calling on the university to depart from funds and businesses involved in the War of Israel there. Videos published on social networks have shown that students also lock their arms and singing: “We have nothing to lose only our channels!”
In response, university officials called in the police, leading to many students arrested with force. On Wednesday, a statement by the university’s acting president, Claire Shipman, said: “The disturbances of our academic activities will not be tolerated and constitute violations of our rules and politicians; This is particularly unacceptable while our students study and prepare for final exams. ”
Meanwhile, a separate declaration on the social networks of student activists said: “We are faced with one of the largest militarized police forces in the world. Public security agents have stifled and beaten us, but we did not hesitate … We will not be useless.
After the demonstrations, Columbia University and its Sister Barnard College school published temporary suspensions to four journalists who reported the demonstrations at the Columbia Spectator and WKCR library. The Columbia spectator reported that the students had identified as public security agents.
According to the point of sale, students received email reviews of their temporary suspensions Thursday afternoon from the Rules Administrator Wawro and Barnard Dean Leslie Grinage. In his email to one of the journalist students, Wawro said that the student may have “participated in a disturbing demonstration in the 301 Butler library”.
Grina wrote to the three other journalists’ journalists saying that their “presumed actions at the Butler library are a permanent threat of disturbance or interference with normal operations both in Barnard and Columbia”.

Columbia university has raised its temporary suspension of one of the journalist students about five hours after the initial notification, reports the Columbia Spectator. Friday, around 9 a.m., the Barnard College raised the suspensions of the other three student journalists.

In recent months, federal officials have arrested many students for their anti-war activism, including Mohsen Mahdawi, a student from the University of Columbia and Holder Green-Card, who has recently been released. Other detainees include Mahmoud Khalil, a graduate of the University of Columbia who remains in detention in an immigration detention center in Louisiana.
