Darwin Nunez leaves fans stunned as he suddenly deletes all Liverpool photos from his Instagram

Darwin Nunez has deleted all Liverpool-related photos from his Instagram page, leaving fans stunned.

Liverpool returned to winning ways on Sunday with a solid 4-2 victory over Tottenham – but Reds fans’ mood quickly changed after the match when they spotted the striker’s move on social media.

The only Liverpool-related photo left on his page is his profile picture, which is a shot of the back of his shirt reading “Darwin” and his team number, nine.

Otherwise, his Instagram profile only contains photos of him with Uruguay and Benfica and occasional snaps of him and his family.

Nunez has struggled for consistency in front of goal since arriving at Anfield from Benfica for a reported fee of £85million in the summer of 2022.

In 94 appearances, the Uruguayan has scored 33 goals and made 17 assists.

It’s a modest return for a striker making his debut in the Premier League.

However, the 24-year-old has been more culpable than most in missing a number of golden chances to find the back of the net.

His 15 minutes on the pitch at the end of the win over Spurs demonstrated that, being flagged offside twice and hitting a one-on-one straight past Guglielmo Vicario.

Nunez is now without a goal since the 3-1 win over Sheffield United in early April.

The Uruguayan’s tally of 11 league goals this season places him 15th in the top flight this season, with teammate and winger Mohamed Salah coming fifth with 18 goals.

His rival for the title and league leader, Erling Haaland of Manchester City, has collected 25.

Michael Owen predicts Darwin Nunez could become an ‘absolute force’ in the Premier League after Mo Salah’s departure from Liverpool

It is unclear why Nunez removed evidence of his Liverpool career from his profile, but his future beyond Jurgen Klopp’s departure remains uncertain.

He has four years remaining on his current contract.

Asked to comment on Nunez and Salah’s struggles in front of goal following the 2-0 defeat to Everton last month, Klopp told reporters: “It’s tricky. The strikers have to go through these things. It’s like that.

“That’s the life of a striker. The life of a goalkeeper is making 500 saves and then a screamer – and everyone talks about it. The life of a striker is you score everything time, then you don’t score for a while and then everyone asks you why you don’t score I don’t score.

“It can be the hardest thing in the world and sometimes the easiest thing in the world, depending on the chances you have. We had some good chances against Everton but again we were in a bit of a rush to finish them.

“So create again, create again and try to put yourself in the right positions to end situations. It will be a truly rich man or woman who can write this book (about getting a striker back to his best ).You have to go through it.

“I’m trying to help them speed up. That doesn’t say anything about the quality of the boys.”
