Danny Trejo Responds to Viral Video of July 4th Altercation

Even at 80, Danny Trejo is hard to control. But that’s exactly what one provocateur tried to do after a Fourth of July event in Los Angeles last week. In a video that went viral, the actor is seen fighting back after a water balloon was thrown at his head while he was in a convertible. Now, Trejo is explaining the situation in more detail and expressing regret for his actions.

Speaking to TMZ, Danny Trejo said: “I’m so sad that I behaved the way I did… I’m so sad that grown men have to throw water balloons to enjoy a day.” He explained why he left the passenger seat to approach the crowd, adding: “I don’t think I would have gotten out of the car if someone hadn’t yelled, ‘That’s acid!’ That’s when I panicked. When I got out of the car, boom! a balloon hit me. Then I looked up and saw a guy holding one. I walked over and said, ‘What the hell is wrong with you?'”

The video shows Danny Trejo being run over. A friend of Trejo’s who was also involved said he believed the incident was deliberately targeted at the actor, which wouldn’t be surprising if someone was trying to make this personal.

But despite the unwanted attention, Danny Trejo remains strong, even going so far as to take on the man’s ego. “They couldn’t hurt me. It was sad… I would have been embarrassed if I had attacked an 80-year-old man who was still talking and laughing.” Machete, don’t joke!

This Danny Trejo is 80 years old is still difficult to understand. But that hasn’t slowed him down in the slightest, even expressing interest in taking up Machete once again for the third installment. Machete kills in spacewhich, judging by his quick movements during the July 4 event, he is still quite capable of doing.

We hate to see any event turn violent, no matter what its nature, and it’s clear that Danny Trejo, whose troubled past is well-documented, feels the same way. So he’s happy to have acknowledged his reaction, showing that he remains a role model for many in the community.
