“I’m so sad that I did what I did,” the Desperado actor told TMZ, recalling the incident. Trejo, 80, was a guest at the Independence Day parade. A viral video showed the actor getting out of his vehicle and approaching people standing nearby, who he said threw water balloons at him.

“I’m so sad that grown men have to throw water balloons to have a good day,” he said, saying he found it childish that people who looked to be in their late 30s would engage in such pranks at a serious time. “I don’t think I would have even gotten out of the car if someone hadn’t yelled, ‘That’s acid!’ That’s when I panicked.” He then explained why he threw the first punch at the potential culprits.

“When I got out of the car, boom! A ball hit me. Then I looked up and saw a guy holding one. I walked over and said, ‘What the hell is wrong with you?’” The Machete star described what led to his action. After being knocked to the ground, he got back up and threw a folding chair at the men. The fight became tense, with the women and others urging them to stop, especially since children were present. However, a source previously told the outlet that Trejo had accidentally targeted the wrong group.

Danny Trejo believes the attack was ‘targeted’

Although Trejo admitted to leaving the car, he downplayed the incident by saying he simply “backed up” and clarified that he tripped and fell off the curb, not from a punch, after someone grabbed him. Additionally, his comments suggest that he believes the situation may be due to racial bias. “There are still people like the people from the ’50s and ’60s who feel the same way, because no one else was targeted. No one else was targeted.”

His friend Mario Castillo, who was present during the incident and was also injured near the eyes and arms, echoed the same sentiment. Castillo felt the attack on them was “targeted.” “No one else was hit by balloons in front of us or behind us. They were just targeting our lowriders.”

“I would be embarrassed if I attacked an 80-year-old man and he was still talking and laughing,” Trejo added.
