Danny Trejo Breaks Silence on July 4th Parade Brawl

Danny Trejo talks about the July 4th brawl occurred Thursday during parade in Sunland, California.

“Honestly, I’m so sad,” Trejo said. TMZ in an interview this weekend. “I’m so sad that I behaved the way I did. I’m so sad that grown men have to throw water balloons to enjoy a day.”

THE Machete The 80-year-old star was the guest of honor and rode in a vintage convertible at the Rotary Club of Sunland-Tujunga’s annual Fourth of July parade in Sunland, California. According to multiple reports, a spectator threw a water balloon at the convertible, abruptly interrupting the parade.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the actor getting out of the car and confronting a man. Punches were then thrown and Trejo was thrown to the ground, sparking a full-blown fight. Another man later identified as Trejo’s best friend Mario was also knocked down. Mario appeared bloodied with a huge cut on his face.

“I don’t think I would have gotten out of the car if someone hadn’t yelled, ‘That’s acid,'” Trejo said. TMZ“That’s when I panicked.”

It is unclear whether there was anything other than water in the balloons that were launched. According to an eyewitness who spoke to ABC7Throwing water balloons at cars during the parade is something of a tradition, but it’s understood that water balloons shouldn’t be thrown at the nicest cars, which is apparently what set Trejo off.

According to the actor, he allegedly confronted the man who threw the balloons and the man grabbed Trejo’s shirt. Trejo said he wasn’t pushed to the ground, but instead tried to back away and “rolled backwards and fell off the sidewalk.”

Trejo was joined during his interview by his friend – who was also reportedly injured in the fight – and they both said they believed the incident was racially motivated.

“No one else was targeted,” Trejo said.

The actor also joked: “I would be embarrassed if I attacked an 80-year-old man and he was still talking and laughing.”

Trejo also spoke with Fox 11 localstating: “It’s sad that people can wake up in the morning and ruin something for everyone.”

“I’m a protector. I’ll always protect all my friends, and that’s what I did,” he said. “I hate bullies, and that’s what bullies do.”

The last few weeks have been tough for Trejo. On June 30, the actor shared on Instagram that he lost his chihuahua, Dixie Wixie. He shared a photo of his pooch on Instagram, writing: “Please hold your babies tight for me. Today I lost my little Dixie Wixie.”

Trejo is known for his appearances in films such as Desperado, Heat, From dusk till dawn, Air conditioning And Once upon a time in Mexico. But he is best known for playing the role of Isador “Machete” Cortez in the films directed by Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis. Machete and its sequel, Killed with machetes.

The actor – who is also the face behind popular Los Angeles establishments Trejo Tacos and Trejo Cantina — has been open about his sobriety and his time in prisonHe has been sober since 1968, just a year before his release from prison. Since then, Trejo has dedicated his life to serving others.
