Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has stressed that Greenland is not for sale, as President-elect Trump has increased calls for the island to be acquired by the United States.
Frederiksen’s comments on a Danish television station came as the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., was visiting Greenland on Tuesday. The trip is personal and Trump Jr. is not expected to meet with any government officials.
The Danish Prime Minister said in an interview that Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte Egede, “has been very, very clear: there is great support among the people of Greenland that Greenland is not for sale and does not will not be in the future either. according to The Hill.

She reportedly told Danish broadcaster TV 2 that Greenland would choose its own future and said, “We must remain calm and stick to our principles,” while hailing the United States as a key ally of Denmark.
In an article published Monday by Truth Social, Trump said he “hears people in Greenland are ‘MAGA’.” The Republican attached a video showing a Greenlander asking the United States to buy his country.

Trump’s son arrived in Nuuk, the Arctic territory’s capital, on Tuesday. He met locals, visited cultural sites and filmed videos for a podcast. The president-elect released a video showing a plane emblazoned with the word “TRUMP” landing in Nuuk.
“Don Jr. and my representatives are landing in Greenland,” Trump wrote. “The reception has been tremendous. They and the free world need safety, security, strength and PEACE! This is a deal that needs to be made. MAGA. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump also spoke to residents via loudspeaker in a video his supporters shared online.
A familiar source told Fox News Digital on Monday that Trump Jr. “will be coming on a short day trip to film some fun video content for podcasting. He will not meet with any government officials or political figures.”
Trump has previously flirted with the idea of purchasing the territory from Denmark, saying it is of vital national security interest to the United States.

At a press conference at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate Tuesday afternoon, the president-elect again said, “Denmark should give it up.”
