“ Dangerous grase of power ” while the Supreme Court is with DOGE on social security data

Friday, social security defenders respond by critical anger to a decision of the United States Supreme Court that the Trump administration in a legal battle on access to sensitive data from tens of millions of Americans by the Government Department of EffectivenessThe government’s avoidant agency first led me by the right-wing libertarian and the mega-minillionaire Elon Musk.

The tribunal’s unsigned emergency order came in response to an emergency request from the Trump administration defending Doge’s ability to have access to social security databases that two unions, alongside the alliance for retired Americans, had taken legal action to protect. According to his decision, the Supreme Court aroused a decision of the lower federal court which said DOGE Must “disgorge” and “delete” all the data to which it has accessed or downloaded from the agency files.

While the underlying case takes place, DOGE is now authorized to keep the data and access to information, which, according to criticism, cannot be entrusted to the newly created department and to the unsuitable staff who control it.

“It’s a sad day for our democracy and a frightening day for millions of people,” said the coalition behind the challenge in response to the decision. “This decision will allow the affiliated companies of President Trump and Doge to steal private and personal data from Americans. Elon Musk may have left Washington, DC, but its continuous impact to harm millions of people. We will continue to use all the legal tools at our disposal to prevent non-elected bureaucrats from poorly using the most sensitive data from the public as this case is advancing.”

“If the personal social security data of the Americans are poorly used or mistreated by this administration, the majority of the Supreme Court will have been fully accomplice.”

While the majority decision was not signed, judges Ketanji Brown Jackson and Elana Kagan supported what was described as a “dazzling” dissent, written by Jackson, counter the determination and the warning against continuous access to Doge while the case goes through the lower courses.

“On the one hand, there is a deposit of millions of legally protected and very sensitive information from the Americans who, although poorly manipulated or disseminated, cause significant damage,” she wrote. “On the other, there is the government’s desire to abandon the usual protocols to access this data, before the courts even determined if Doge’s access is legal.”

Max Richtman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Committee to preserve social security and health insurance, described the decision of the majority of “extremely disturbing” for a multitude of reasons.

“We echo the concerns of the minority, as it is articulated by judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, that the decision creates` risks of serious confidentiality ” by giving DOGE ‘access to data without obstacles – despite its inability to show a need or an interest in complying with the guarantees of existing confidentiality, “said Richtman. “It is difficult to justify the action of the Court, in particular in the light in the incompetent and reckless way of which DOGE has already interfered with the operations of the social Security Administration, causing an increase in new social security complaints by the elderly who fear that the situation will only get worse.”

Devon Ombre, principal director of courts and legal policy in the center-left of the center for American Progress, echoed these concerns.

“This action of six far -right judges is an affront to all the principles of government transparency and the rule of law. DOGE has not shown a need to review the personal information of each American, and the high court does not provide any explanation in the granting of computer access,” said Shadow. “Americans have no way of knowing how Doge will use or abuse this information, or what Doge is or what it does. Shame on the Court to have the rubber of this administration and further undermine public confidence within the government, which President Trump has eroded.”

Quoting Musk, who recently left his position in Doge and has embarked on a high -level hood with the president Donald Trump In recent days, Richtman said that the founder of Tesla and Spacex and the richest man in the world could not trust, giving the lies he said about social security fraud which “has undermined people in the system”.

“It barely inspires the confidence that Doge has either the feeling of ethics or public service to be entrusted with the private data of the Americans, leads us to believe that court simply encourages another dangerous power by the executive power,” said Richtman. “If the personal social security data of the Americans are poorly used or mistreated by this administration, the majority of the Supreme Court will have been fully accomplice.”
