Dana Hills’ Evan Noonan Caps a Great Year by Winning 3,200 at CIF State Track and Field Meet – Orange County Register

Dana Hills’ Evan Noonan has already had a strong junior year heading into Saturday’s CIF State Track and Field Championships finals in Clovis.

Noonan was Orange County’s male cross country athlete of the year and was the CIF Southern Section Division 2 champion this spring in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

On Saturday night, he won the 3,200 in 8 minutes, 43.12 seconds in the state finals at Buchanan High School. Noonan produced his usual excellent result, covering the final 400 meters in 57.2 seconds.

The time was the third best in the 3,200m in California this season.

MASSEY D’ALISO NIGUEL THIRD IN THE SHOT PUT

Aliso Niguel sophomore Jaslene Massey finished third in the shot put Saturday with a throw of 44 feet, 7½ inches.

She won the CIF-SS Division 1 championship two weeks ago with a throw of 42-2 and at the CIF-SS Masters Meet on May 18, she had her best throw of the season with a score of 46-0 .

Massey had to battle a cold on Saturday.

“I haven’t been able to train for the last four days,” she said Saturday evening. “So it was a little nerve-wracking before the competition. But I was able to shake myself off, do my footwork and spin down.

Massey also competed in the high jump and broad jump this season and was the starting middle blocker for the Aliso Niguel women’s volleyball team. She said she plans to continue doing all of this as a junior next year.

LEWIS TOP 4 IN PACIFICA IN POINT AND DISCUS THROWING

Pacifica senior Zach Lewis tied for third in the 60-foot shot put and tied for fourth in the discus with a personal best of 184-5.

Lewis said he was both pleased and disappointed.

“I’m happy with the record,” he said. “I twisted my elbow a little bit at the Masters, so I wasn’t able to practice for state. My technique (in the shot put) was unrefined and all over the place.

Lewis’ goal in the shot put was 63-6, but injury and time out made that difficult.

“I think I would have had it in me,” he said.
