Damon Wayans reacted to the news of his program “Poppa’s House” canceled by CBS, writing in a long Instagram post which he “left with deep gratitude”.
CBS announced on Tuesday that it had canceled both “Poppa’s House” and “The Summit” after a season each. Created by Wayans and Kevin Hench, the sitcom focused on the life of a father-son duo, played by Wayans and his real son, Damon Wayans Jr.
In his Instagram article, Wayans said that the creation of “Poppa’s house” was “such a beautiful trip”.
“My heart is full because I say thank you to each person who has made the” Poppa house “such a significant experience,” he wrote. “At the incredible casting, you have brought so much heart, soul and joy to each scene. It was an absolute honor to share the screen with you and create something special together. For writers, producers, directors and all the crew, you were the heart rate of this show. Thank you for your dedication, your passion and for presenting you every day with love and commitment.
Wayans gave a special cry to Wayans Jr., saying that “working apart has been one of the greatest joys of my life”. He added: “And to my incredible family, brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who presented themselves as writers, guest stars and creative forces, you made this journey even more significant. It is such a blessing to have so much love in a single set and to be able to create and laugh with family and friends.”
Wayans continued: “Although Poppa’s house is coming to an end, I reappeared with a deep gratitude, friendships for life and unforgettable memories. This show gave me more than what I could have imagined. To all those who watched, supported and raw in us thank you. Your love means everything. On the next chapter, with nothing other than love in my heart.”
“Poppa’s House” received solid reviews for its first season, but Variety The Aramid critic Tinubu wrote in his review that it was not “a home run”. She added: “The show takes several episodes to find its stride, and the pieces of the comedy are exaggerated, leaning towards Slipstick, which will undoubtedly dissuade certain viewers from staying.”
The cancellation of “Poppa’s House” came when CBS announced that it had ordered two new projects in series: “DMV”, a camera comedy with Harriett Dyer, Tim Meadows, Molly Kearney and Alex Tarrant; And “Einstein”, a drama led by Matthew Gray Gubler and Rosa Salazar.
