He received on-the-spot CPR to restart his heart before being transferred to a local hospital, where he remains in stable but critical condition.

The 24-year-old was drafted by the Bills in 2021 from Pittsburgh and was a regular starter for Super Bowl contenders in 2022.

While still in college, Hamlin started an annual Christmas toy drive in his hometown of McKees Rocks.

Shortly after he collapsed during the game, fans started donating to the cause on GoFundMe. It went from just under £2500 [$3000] to over £2.5 million [$3m] within a few hours.

A day later, donations had almost hit the £5million mark.

There was an outpouring of emotion from both sets of players immediately following the incident where Hamlin collided with Bengals receiver Tee Higgins.

Both groups of players knelt in prayer, while many were visibly in tears.

The match was naturally postponed and no new date for the clash was announced.

His teammate Stefan Diggs was then seen arriving at the hospital where he was being treated to be with Hamlin.

Diggs allegedly took an Uber from the stadium to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and should have been attested to by an ESPN reporter after he was blocked from entering the hospital by a police officer.

In the latest update on his current medical condition, the Bills said, “Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest following a hit in our game against the Bengals.

“His heart rhythm was restored in the field and he was transferred to UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.
